TeamDef - Facts |
|
|
What is TeamDef?
TeamDef is Windows Forms application for time tracking and time
sheet management for team projects in Team Foundation Server. Used in
conjunction with Microsoft Team Foundation Server, TeamDef allows users to efficiently
track time consumption for work items in their projects. Besides time tracking,
TeamDef can be used by project managers and team leaders for project planning and
task assignment on operational level.
Who is TeamDef designed for?
TeamDef is designed for project managers, team leaders, developers,
testers and other members of the development team who use Microsoft Team Foundation
Server for their projects.
TeamDef is designed for all development teams which do not have sufficient control
over operational (day to day) planning and which need to track work item consumption
by individual task or project.
What are the benefits for me if I use TeamDef?
If you are a project manager, TeamDef offers you more flexible
and more precise information regarding real status of the project. TeamDef will
provide information about real-time consumption of work items and project phases
and information about real progress of your tasks. TeamDef will also provide notification
about a potential risk to meeting a deadline based on information that comes directly
from “the field”.
If you are a team leader, TeamDef is a powerful tool which allows you operational,
day-to-day management of task scheduling, time tracking and time sheet management.
If you are a member of the development team, TeamDef will help you to stay focused
on the tasks needed to finish the project. You will also, for instance, have a plan
of activities for the next week and you will have information on what to do, when
to do it and how much time you spent doing it.
Is there any benefit for other departments and people who are not
part of the development team if they are using TeamDef?
Yes. There are immediate benefits from implementation of TeamDef
to all other members of the overall project team, including management, who need
answers to questions like:
- “When will we have time and resources to do our next project?”
- “Which project is more profitable?”
- “Which projects are generating losses?”
- “What is the efficiency of our development team in a particular type of the project?”
- “Do we have enough resources to finish all contracted projects on schedule?”
Is TeamDef flexible enough for my team?
Yes. TeamDef supports teams with different organizations and structures.
For example, TeamDef can be useful to teams which are organized in a way where the
project manager assigns tasks directly to team members – but – TeamDef is also useful
to teams where project manager is responsible for summary tasks and team leader
handles task (work items) assignment according to project plan. TeamDef is also
useful in situations where a (small) team does not have a project manager – in that
case its ability to manage day-to-day assignments comes in the first place.
Do I need to stop using MS Project and/or MS Excel when I use TeamDef?
No. TeamDef works in a conjunction with MS Project and MS Excel.
If I am a developer or a tester, can I use TeamDef within Visual
Studio 2005?
Yes. TeamDef is available as a Visual Studio 2005 add-in as well
as a standalone Windows Forms application.
